How to Shop For Lingerie | Berks County Boudoir
Okay class, let’s talk about the difference between teddies and bodysuits. Bustiers vs corsets. Lace, cotton, or silk bra and panties. Chemise or babydoll. Garter belt or garters built in? Robe or kimono.
Is your head spinning a little bit? Mine was too at first. While I won’t go into specific differences of each of those pieces (check back for more on that later), these five tips should help you begin the journey into shopping for lingerie if it’s your first time.
These tips can apply to shopping for your boudoir shoot, or shopping for a hot night at home with your partner!
1) Include a trusted friend.
Lingerie shopping can be both fun and overwhelming! When shopping for a boudoir session, or a sexy night at home, it can be helpful to grab your bestie and go try things on! Pick the kind of friend who will tell you if you have spinach in your teeth; they’re the ones who won’t let you look like a French maid in Vegas… unless that’s what you’re going for!
2) Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone.
For most women, lingerie in itself if outside of their comfort zone, but you only live once, right? Take the time to figure out how those crazy straps work on gartered lingerie- I promise it will be time WELL invested! You can also employ the help of a friend from tip #1. If your best friend isn’t willing to get THAT close to your naked butt, maybe we need to reevaluate some things…
3) Set a budget; but consider the “you get what you pay for” rule.
Lingerie can often hold true to that sentiment. You’ll find all kinds of options in low end, mid-range, and high end lingerie. Since lingerie shopping is often for a special occasion, remember that you don’t need to buy a whole months supply. Treat yourself to one or two mid-range to high end pieces!
4. Take your time!
Give yourself ample time to try different style, return what doesn’t work for you, and explore the world of lingerie. You might be surprised how different your tastes are from the beginning of your lingerie research to the end.
5. Aim for variety.
Our favorite galleries are often the ones that show a range of sexiness. This could look like: a lace bodysuit/teddy, a silk chemise, a set of Calvin Kleins, and a pair of cotton panties with a cut up white tank top. Think of “lingerie” as a broader term for boudoir. In the bedroom, well… anything goes. But when planning for a sexy boudoir experience, it doesn’t have to mean all lace and frill!
There you have it! Now go hit your local lingerie store with your bestie, or grab a glass of wine and some snacks for a little bit of online shopping.
Remember: lingerie is supposed to be fun! It will test you to push outside of your comfort zone and make you deal with your inner critic.
Repeat after me: “I am a badass. My body was designed to do great things. Being sexy is one of those things. ”
